TIDBITS 4 EMERGENCY PET PREPAREDNESS
I am not just talking about natural disasters, but those that can pop up in everyday life.
Our pets need us to be prepared no matter what comes along. Being prepared in case something arises will keep you and your pet calmer. Some of the things that you want to think about are
1. An emergency pet kit , prepare an emergency kit, which should contain dishes, food, your water, leashes or carriers, 1st aid kit for pets, vaccinations records, photos of your pets, poop bags, litter and box , blanket/towels.
2. Make sure your pets have some sort of identification, including pets name, owners name and contact numbers, names of other cats, dogs etc., that they will know.
3 Prepare an emergency arrangments with a friend or neighbor to take care of your animals if you can not make it home. Prepare for your pets well being in even a minor emergency . If you area is expecting trouble please make sure your pets are ready to take with you if you have to leave, if they are large animals move them before trouble hits your area, Have a list of pet friendly hotel in advance. Some shelters may not take pets. Don’t leave your pets behind unless by staying you will be risking your own life. If you are like me I would rather shelter with my pets then have them away from me.
4. If I am traveling and have a pet sitter, both my small animal and large animal vets, are notified, they know what treatment I approve. They have contact info for me at all times. If my pet will require extensive treatment I prefer to make that call myself. I would never let an animal suffer but I do request if they need to be put to sleep that I be the one to have to make that decision.
Our pets are not spoiled they are well loved.

TIDBITS 4 CAT AND DOG OWNERS
Tidbits 4 cat and dog owners
Getting a pet is great for kids and adults alike. That being said, a certain responsibility comes with owning a pet. To make sure things go well, consider the following tidbits of advice.
- Physically Disciplining Cats – You should not hit or swipe at your cat. Instead, discipline them with a water spray bottle. If you do it yourself, the cat will avoid you at all cost.
- Dry Dog Wash – If you don’t have time to give your dog a bath and they smell bad, you can give them a rub down with baking soda to take the edge off.
- Pets Hate Baths – Nearly every pet hates baths. Heck, they can even understand you when you spell the word out. Bring a toy or two in to the bathroom to calm them down.
- Exotic Pet Problems – It may seem like a good idea to get a unique pet, but be warned. They have unique needs and you may be surprised how much maintenance there is.
- Pets In Pools – Throwing a ball into a pool for a pet to chase is a favorite pastime. Swimming is good for their hips, but watch their fur. It can dry out the skin because of the chlorine.
- Dog Tennis Ball – Tennis balls are a dogs favorite toy. They are also bad for their jaws. Get a medically approved ball at the local store.
Whether you are getting a dog, cat or something more exotic, understanding the needs of your pet is good place to start. Although we all tend to lend human qualities to our pets, they are not human. Make sure you take care of them based on knowledge.
Please remember our pets are well loved not spoiled

TIDBITS 4 NON HEALTHY FOODS FOR YOUR DOGS
This Tidbit non- healthy foods 4 your dogs, Please during this holiday season lets all try to remember that people foods can make our pets ill and even kill them, below are some of the foods that are dangerous for our pets.
- Grapes and Raisins: Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure in dogs. As little as a single serving of raisins can kill a dog.
Onions: Onions destroy red blood cells and can cause anemia.
Chocolate: Chocolate can cause seizures, coma and death.
Coffee, Coffee grounds, tea and tea bags: Drinks/foods containing caffeine cause many of the same symptoms chocolate causes. - Macadamia nuts: Macadamia nuts can cause weakness, muscle tremor and paralysis. Limit all other nuts as they are not good for dogs in general. The exception is peanut butter; however, always use organic, salt/sugar free. Regular peanut butter has lots of toxins and is full of pesticides.
Animal fat and fried foods: Excessive fat can cause pancreatitis.
Bones: Cooked bones can splinter and damage a dog’s internal organs. Raw bones should always be supervised as a small piece can break off and cause problems. - Tomatoes: Tomatoes can cause tremors and heart arrhythmias. Tomato plants are toxic.
Salt: Excessive salt intake can cause kidney problems.
Mushrooms or toadstools: Never let your pet eat mushrooms found in your yard.
Xylitol: A sweetener. Even a small amount can cause liver failure and death. - If your pet has ingested any of these foods, get veterinary help immediately.

TIDBIT 4 TRAVELING WITH YOUR DOGS AND CATS
- Tidbit for traveling with your dogs and cats I have gone many miles with my pets. If your pet is not a good traveler please get with your Vet before you leave and ask them about pet drugs. I know most of us prefer not to use them, but if it helps our pets it is worth it.
- Make sure that the health records are up to date, travel by air requires a health certificate which is different than just their records.
If you are traveling by car try to book your pet friendly hotel in advance, there are a few hotels chains that are very pet friendly, Best Western being one of them. Do not forget to use any and all discounts, AAA, AARP, Sam’s Club, Costco, etc. The worst they can say is "I am sorry we do not offer a discount". - Please remember that you should stop about every one and a half to two hours for walks, not only for your pet but also for you. Road trips can be fun and enjoyable with your pets.
- Please remember that our pets are not spoiled they are well loved.
I would love to hear other travel stories
